Stapha's view

Verified — based on our interview with leadership

The rare place where 'development' isn't a poster. Every carer has two paid CPD hours ring-fenced per week — we saw them being used, not banked. The training lead, Mo, runs a Tuesday clinic on medication management that nurses from neighbouring homes travel in for.

One thing we're proud of

We fund the full NVQ Level 3 for anyone who wants it and has been here six months. Twelve carers on it this year.

St Aidan's

What surprises new starters…

That we mean it about protected training time. It's in the rota. Cover is arranged. It doesn't get eaten by 'just this once'.

  • Registered Nurse

    6 yrs

I turned down a hospital band 6 to stay. The clinical learning here is better than the ward I left, and I go home on time.

  • Care Assistant

    2 yrs

Started as bank, on NVQ 3 within a year. They pay for the course and they pay you for study hours. It's not a gimmick.

  • Night Nurse

    1 yr

The clinical support in the day is excellent but nights can feel lean. One nurse for the whole floor is fine most nights, tight on some. Would love a second on weekends.

Fair — we've been recruiting for a weekend-nights nurse since spring, still open if you know anyone. Second pair of hands can't come soon enough.

    — Manager, St Aidan's

  • Deputy Manager

    8 yrs

This place raised me professionally. I came in as a carer with no confidence, I'm running a floor now. Leadership here believes in growing people.

  • Domestic Assistant

    4 yrs

Feel treated the same as clinical staff — same training days invited, same Christmas dinner. Small thing but it matters.
